Cameroon: FECAFOOT’s Authority Strengthened

FECAFOOT Nvo

The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has officially been granted full control over the national teams, marking a significant shift in Cameroonian football governance. This development comes via a decree issued by President Paul Biya, which consolidates both technical and administrative responsibilities under FECAFOOT’s authority.

🔑 Key Points of the Decree:

  • FECAFOOT now manages:

    • The senior men’s and women’s national teams

    • The A’ team (players from domestic leagues)

    • U23 (Hopefuls)

    • U20 (Juniors)

    • U17 (Cadets)

    • U15 (Minimes)

  • Scope of authority expanded to include:

    • Appointment of technical and administrative staff

    • Management of bonuses

    • Handling of visa-related matters

🧾 Context & Impact:

This decision overrides the October 30, 1972 law, which had caused years of conflict and confusion. That law split responsibilities, with FECAFOOT overseeing technical aspects and the Ministry of Sports handling administrative supervision. This dual structure led to frequent disputes and inefficiencies, often impacting team performance and logistics.

⚽ What This Means Going Forward:

  • FECAFOOT now has unified control, which could lead to:

    • More coherent team management

    • Faster decision-making

    • Reduced conflict between governmental and football authorities

    • Better planning for major competitions

This shift is expected to streamline operations and potentially strengthen the competitiveness of Cameroon’s national teams at all levels.
