Cameroon FA hails Zambo Anguissa as ‘tireless pillar’ after ending international career

The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has paid tribute to André-Frank Zambo Anguissa following the midfielder’s decision to end his international career with the Indomitable Lions.

Anguissa, 30, announced his retirement from the Cameroon national team on Monday after nearly a decade of international service. He leaves the national team with 67 appearances and five goals.

In a heartfelt message, FECAFOOT said it received the midfielder’s decision with “great emotion and gratitude”, praising him for the dedication and selflessness he consistently demonstrated while representing Cameroon.

The federation described the Napoli midfielder as an “exceptional player” and a “tireless pillar in midfield”, highlighting the qualities that made him an important figure for the Indomitable Lions.

According to FECAFOOT, Anguissa’s power, selflessness and leadership had a lasting influence on the way Cameroon played, while his commitment extended beyond his performances on the pitch.

The federation also expressed its appreciation for his professionalism and unwavering dedication to the national team throughout his international career.

“FECAFOOT wishes to express its deepest gratitude to André-Frank Zambo Anguissa for his unfailing commitment, his professionalism and his constant dedication to the national team,” the federation said.

Anguissa’s international career began in 2017, and over the following years he became one of the central figures in the Cameroon midfield.

His departure now brings an end to a significant chapter with the Indomitable Lions, with FECAFOOT recognising not only his statistics but also the leadership and character he brought to the national team.
