Morocco’s women’s national team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Cameroon on Tuesday in an international friendly played at the Père Jégo Stadium in Casablanca.
The loss came just four days after the Atlas Lionesses impressed with a 3-1 victory over Tunisia.
The home side, led by Spanish coach Jorge Vilda, struggled to assert control against a physically dominant Cameroonian side.
The Indomitable Lionesses dictated the tempo from the outset and were rewarded early in the match when Aboudi Onguene struck the only goal in the 19th minute.
Despite the support of their home fans, Morocco failed to find a breakthrough.
The attacking efforts led by captain Ghizlane Chebbak lacked cohesion, and the team found itself repeatedly stifled by Cameroon’s well-organised defence.
It was a frustrating evening for the hosts, who were unable to capitalise on their recent momentum.

The result brings an end to Morocco’s three-match unbeaten run, which included a 1-0 win over Ghana and a 1-1 draw against Haiti in February.
The loss will come as a blow for Vilda’s side, especially with the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) looming just three months away, scheduled for 5–26 July.
Confidence, it seems, has taken a hit at a crucial juncture in Morocco’s preparations.
While the fixture served as a valuable test against high-calibre opposition, the inability to respond after going behind raised concerns about the team’s depth and resilience.
“For those who see the glass half full,” the match may serve as a wake-up call to fine-tune tactics and address vulnerabilities before the competition begins.
Morocco are still chasing their first continental title, having participated in the Women’s AFCON three times without success.
They exited in the group stage in both 1998 and 2000.
Their best campaign came in 2022, where they reached the final on home soil before falling 2-1 to South Africa, with Hildah Magaia scoring twice to seal the title for Banyana Banyana.
As preparations intensify ahead of this summer’s tournament, Jorge Vilda and his staff will look to regroup and extract the positives from a match that, while disappointing in outcome, may prove useful in the long term.
Team line-ups for the Morocco-Cameroon friendly were not disclosed at the time of reporting.
