There has been a clarification regarding the reported resignation of Raymond Domenech from the position of coach for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. Contrary to earlier announcements made by Iya Mohammed, president of Fecafoot, it appears that no conversation took place between him and Stéphane Canard, the exclusive agent of the former French national team coach.
Stéphane Canard, who holds an exclusive contract with Domenech, stated on Wednesday that he never discussed his client’s withdrawal with Iya Mohammed. He explained, “I am under an exclusive contract with Mr. Domenech. We sent his CV on time. But for 10 days, I have been inundated with calls from intermediaries, who tell me that it is thanks to them that Domenech is on a short list. And it was one of them who told Mr. Iya that Raymond would no longer be a candidate. Which is absolutely false.”
Stéphane Canard further clarified that Domenech has a project for the Cameroonian national team, but as of now, no meeting date has been set. Domenech, who is currently on vacation, has not yet been interviewed by the Cameroonian delegation, which has been in Paris since Monday. According to his agent, this interview is expected to take place on Thursday or Friday.
Apart from Domenech, the shortlist for the coaching position also includes the German Volker Finke and the Swede Sven-Göran Eriksson, the former coach of Ivory Coast in 2010.
