Raymond Domenech, the former coach of the French national team, is reportedly closer to joining the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. The Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has been seeking a successor for Jean Paul Akono, and Domenech is said to be in consideration for the position. The 61-year-old coach could potentially sign a 4-year contract with Fecafoot.
Domenech, along with other applicants, underwent an interview process, and his file is reportedly on track. The interview took place in a large hotel in Paris. Other candidates for the position include Antoine Kanbouaré (49 years old) and Pierre Lechantre. If Domenech is appointed, one of the first individuals he may meet is Samuel Eto’o.
Earlier in the week, the president of Fecafoot, Iha Mohamed, had stated that Domenech had withdrawn from the list of candidates. However, this information was denied by Domenech’s agent.
Cameroon, led by Samuel Eto’o, is currently the leader of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers for Brazil 2014, with 7 points. The national team is expected in Lomé on June 9 for their upcoming matches.
