The tenure of Belgian coach Marc Brys as head of the Cameroon national team has been anything but smooth. Since his appointment in April, Brys has found himself entangled in a bitter power struggle with the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), a conflict that now threatens his position.
From the very start, FECAFOOT resisted his appointment, refusing to recognize his authority. However, the Minister of Sports went ahead to hire the 62-year-old to lead the Indomitable Lions.
Even after an uneasy compromise was reached over his coaching staff, tensions within the national team’s management remained high.
Now, FECAFOOT has laid out a damning list of 18 charges against the coach, citing breaches of protocol and insubordination.
Among the allegations are his refusal to attend a key meeting, unauthorized announcements of squad lists, failure to submit post-match reports, and violations of marketing regulations that could impact sponsorship deals.
In response, FECAFOOT has formally warned Brys through the Minister of Sports, who appointed him. He has been given until March 14, 2025, to correct his course or face potential repercussions which includes his removal as head coach.
With tensions reaching a boiling point, the Belgian coach’s future hangs in the balance. If a resolution is not found soon, Cameroon’s coaching crisis could deepen, further destabilizing the national team ahead of crucial fixtures.
