Cameroon: Coach Volker Finke Dismissed

**Cameroon: Volker Finke Dismissed as National Team Coach**

In a surprising move, the **Executive Committee of FECAFOOT** has decided to relieve **Volker Finke** of his duties as head coach of the **Indomitable Lions**.

**Belinga Alexandre** has been appointed interim coach, assisted by **Djonkep Bonaventure**. The decision is unexpected, as Finke was reportedly about to sign a contract extension next week. The new FECAFOOT president, **Tombi a Roko Sidiki**, is clearly asserting his authority.

Finke, appointed in **May 2013**, never fully won over Cameroonian football observers. His relations with the press were tense, and following **Cameroon’s early exits from the 2014 World Cup and the 2015 African Cup of Nations**, calls for his dismissal had grown louder.

The timing is notable, coming just **two weeks before the first leg of the second round of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers**, in which Cameroon will face **Niger**.
