Cameroon coach David Pagou shortlists three players for captaincy role ahead of AFCON 2025
Head coach of the Cameroonian national team, David Pagou, has shortlisted three players for the captaincy position ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
Pagou replaced Belgian tactician Marc Brys on the eve of the continental showpiece after a fallout with Cameroon Football Federation president, Samuel Eto’o.
However, the new trainer has decided to appoint a new captain for the tournament, shortlisting three potential leaders in the team, including goalkeeper Devis Epassy, defender Nouhou Tolo and forward Christian Bassogog.
The nominees represent key positions across the squad, showcasing leadership qualities in goal, defense, and attack.
The indomitable Lions of Cameroon are paired in Group F against Gabon, Ivory Coast and Mozambique at the continental showpiece, Cameroon will open their AFCON account against the Panthers on December 24, 2025.
Pagou and his charges will be hoping for a flying start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in the North African country.
The 35th edition of the continental showpiece has been scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21 through to January 18, 2026, with 24 countries set to battle it out for the covetous trophy.
