Vincent Aboubakar is set to continue his career in Iran with Persepolis FC, with the Cameroonian striker reportedly close to finalising a deal after leaving Turkish club Hatayspor earlier this summer.

The 33-year-old, who captains Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions, has been searching for a new club ahead of the 2025/26 season.

His future had been the subject of speculation as the transfer window neared its conclusion, with reported interest from a wide range of clubs, including Palmeiras in Brazil, Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates, Qarabag FK in Azerbaijan, and Turkish sides Kocaelispor and Sariyer SK.

Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca were also linked with the veteran forward.

However, Iranian outlet Varzesh3 has reported that Persepolis FC have reached an agreement in principle with Aboubakar, with only minor contractual details left to finalise before the transfer is completed.

Barring any last-minute complications, the move is expected to be confirmed in the coming days, potentially even within hours.

Aboubakar’s arrival would see the experienced forward bring his wealth of international and club experience to one of Asia’s most successful teams. Persepolis, based in Tehran, are looking to strengthen their attack ahead of the new campaign, and the addition of Aboubakar would provide a major boost given his reputation as one of Africa’s most accomplished strikers.

The forward’s career has seen him feature for several clubs across Europe and beyond. He first made his mark at Coton Sport in Cameroon before moving to Europe, where he played for Valenciennes and Lorient in France.

Aboubakar then earned a high-profile switch to Porto, where his performances further elevated his status. He later enjoyed two spells at Turkish giants Beşiktaş, becoming a fan favourite for his clinical finishing, before his most recent stint at Hatayspor.

Internationally, Aboubakar has been a talisman for Cameroon, leading them to success at the Africa Cup of Nations and representing his country at multiple World Cups. Known for his strength, composure, and ability to deliver in crucial moments, his signing would mark a major coup for Persepolis.

While fans await the official announcement, the deal would represent a significant chapter in Aboubakar’s decorated career, as he becomes one of the highest-profile African players to feature in Iranian football.

Persepolis, who regularly compete in the AFC Champions League, will be counting on his experience and leadership to bolster their ambitions for both domestic and continental success.

With his transfer seemingly imminent, Aboubakar looks poised to embark on a fresh challenge in Tehran, adding yet another destination to an illustrious career spanning Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.
