Cameroon becomes second team to qualify for 2025 AFCON after victory over Kenya
Cameroon has officially secured its place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) following a narrow 1-0 victory over Kenya in their qualifier match on Monday.
The win, achieved in the fourth round of the qualifiers, makes Cameroon the second team to book a ticket to the continental tournament, joining Burkina Faso, who secured their spot earlier this week.
The match, held in front of a spirited crowd, saw Cameroon clinch the crucial three points needed to secure their qualification.
The only goal of the game came in the second half, allowing the Indomitable Lions to extend their lead at the top of the group to 10 points.
This result leaves them uncatchable by their rivals, ensuring their spot in the prestigious tournament set to take place in Morocco next year.
Meanwhile, Kenya remains in third place in the group, with just four points.
The Cameroonian side, led by a focused and determined squad, executed a disciplined game plan to overcome a resilient Kenyan team.
The decisive goal sparked celebrations both on the pitch and among fans, marking a moment of triumph as the national team looks to regain its status as one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
Cameroon’s qualification follows that of Burkina Faso, who became the first team, aside from hosts Morocco, to qualify for AFCON 2025.
Burkina Faso’s spot was secured after their 2-0 win over Burundi on Sunday, which saw them dominate the match to seal their qualification with ease.
With Cameroon’s victory, the focus now shifts to the remaining matches in the qualification rounds as other teams vie for a chance to participate in Africa’s premier football tournament.
The Indomitable Lions’ early qualification will allow them to prepare strategically for the competition, as they seek to make a strong impact on the continental stage.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will be a major event, bringing together the best teams from across the continent, and Cameroon’s early qualification reaffirms their status as a team to watch.
Fans across the nation will be eagerly anticipating their team’s journey in Morocco, hoping for a successful campaign to bring home another AFCON title.
