Cameroon: Bamboutos de Mbouda rejoins Elite One after resolving dispute with FECAFOOT

Bamboutos FC of Mbouda has officially confirmed its return to the Cameroonian Elite One championship, reversing a recent decision to withdraw from the competition amid financial disagreements and dissatisfaction with officiating standards.

The club had initially pulled out of the league citing unpaid bonuses and delayed subsidies from the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT).

The withdrawal sparked widespread debate in the local football scene, but after extensive consultations in Douala, the club has opted to resume participation in the top flight.

In a formal statement signed by the club’s deputy president, Dechateau Kamdoum, Bamboutos indicated that its return was based on concrete assurances provided during negotiations.

These included commitments from FECAFOOT concerning the payment of outstanding financial obligations and improvements in refereeing quality moving forward.

A letter of confirmation has since been addressed to the secretary general of FECAFOOT, informing the federation of the team’s reinstatement in the league.

Behind the scenes, efforts to reintegrate the club were led by chairman of the board, Élie Saker Tshouongang.

His role proved pivotal in persuading players and local stakeholders to support the decision.

Following several meetings with influential figures from the Mbouda community, an agreement was reached to resume club operations and restart preparations for the remainder of the season.

The players, who had been vocal in their frustrations over delayed salaries and lack of clarity from club management, have now agreed to return to the pitch.

Their decision was seen as a gesture of goodwill towards supporters and a commitment to fulfilling the team’s obligations in Elite One.

Bamboutos FC is set to make its comeback this weekend against Panthère Sportive du Ndé in a fixture counting for the 23rd matchday.

Panthère currently sits fourth in the league standings, and the clash is expected to be a stern test for the Mangwa Boys as they look to regain rhythm following their hiatus.

Despite the return, the club continues to face financial headwinds, with unresolved salary arrears still hanging over its head.

Nevertheless, the decision to rejoin the competition has been welcomed by fans and league officials, who see it as a positive step toward stability.

With renewed commitments on all sides, Bamboutos de Mbouda’s return marks a turning point in a turbulent chapter, as the club attempts to rebuild both trust and momentum in Cameroon’s top-tier football.
