Cameroon attacker Christian Kofane ruled out for several weeks with thigh injury
Bayer Leverkusen striker Christian Kofane is set to spend several weeks on the sidelines after returning from international duty with a left thigh injury.
The Cameroon international sustained the muscle injury during the Indomitable Lions’ 3-1 victory over Comoros in the opening round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on September 24 in Garoua.
Kofane was forced off at half-time after experiencing discomfort, with the injury subsequently ruling him out of Cameroon’s second qualifying fixture against Congo.
The 19-year-old had hoped to recover in time to feature in the national team’s preparations for their international friendly against Côte d’Ivoire on October 3.
Although he resumed training with the Cameroonian squad ahead of the encounter, the forward was not yet fully fit and was unable to return to peak physical condition.
Following his return to Germany, further recovery time will be required, with the injury expected to keep him out of action for several weeks.
The setback comes as Bayer Leverkusen continue their 2026-27 campaign, with the Bundesliga side set to be without the young forward while he undergoes rehabilitation.
Kofane will now focus on recovering from the muscle problem before returning to training and working his way back to full fitness.
His absence is also a blow to Cameroon, who will hope to have the striker available again as they continue their campaign to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
