AFCON 2015: Cameroon Held to Third Consecutive Draw in Warm-Up Match
Malabo, Equatorial Guinea — Cameroon’s national football team continued their lacklustre preparations for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with a goalless draw against Gabonese side Mounana FC in their third and final warm-up match ahead of the tournament.
The Indomitable Lions, managed by German coach Volker Finke, failed to make an impact during the game, creating few chances and appearing off pace throughout the contest. In contrast, Mounana FC, one of Gabon’s top domestic clubs, showed greater initiative and mounted several attacks that tested the Cameroonian defence.
This result marks the third draw in a row for Cameroon during their pre-tournament campaign, following 1-1 stalemates against both DR Congo and South Africa. The series of unconvincing performances has raised concerns among fans and pundits alike as the team gears up for their Group D opener against Guinea.
Cameroon’s technical staff are expected to address tactical and structural issues exposed during the friendly fixtures. Questions have also been raised about the team’s attacking fluidity and ability to break down resilient opposition defences.
The starting XI for Cameroon featured several familiar names, including Nicolas Nkoulou and Aurélien Chedjou in central defence, Henri Bedimo and Ambroise Oyongo as full-backs, and a midfield trio of Georges Mandjeck, Eyong Enoh, and Edgar Salli. Up front, the attacking line comprised Benjamin Moukandjo, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, and Leonard Kweuke.
The Lions will need to find their rhythm quickly if they hope to make an impact in Equatorial Guinea, where the tournament kicks off on January 17 and runs through to February 8.
