Camavinga’s red card sparks fury; Sneijder calls midfielder stupid in Bayern loss
Wesley Sneijder has strongly criticized Eduardo Camavinga following Real Madrid’s dramatic elimination by Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The Dutch great took issue with the Frenchman’s red card, which came while Madrid still had control of the tie and shifted the momentum Bayern’s way.
Speaking on Ziggo Sport, Sneijder did not soften his words. “Camavinga is stupid,” he said. “Do you know what the Real Madrid players should have done after the final whistle? They should have run to the dressing room and shown Camavinga their anger.” His reaction summed up the frustration many around the club felt after such a costly dismissal on a night of huge pressure.
The sending-off quickly proved decisive, as Bayern capitalised to score twice and book their place in the semi-finals. What had looked like a controlled European performance from Madrid unravelled in a matter of minutes once they were reduced to ten men.
For Camavinga, it was a painful reminder of how a single moment can define a Champions League knockout tie and spark fierce criticism from legends of the game.
