Calvin Bassey reflects positively on Ajax spell despite short stay

Calvin Bassey has looked back warmly on his time at Ajax, saying the move from Rangers in 2022 gave him valuable lessons even though he left for Fulham after just one season.

He admitted the adjustment took time and felt he may have needed another year to fully settle in.

The defender said Amsterdam was a lively place to live after quieter Glasgow, and he enjoyed the city’s restaurants and atmosphere. He also praised Dusan Tadic for helping him and Steven Bergwijn feel at home right away, describing him as a top professional who looked after new arrivals.

Bassey explained that Ajax’s style demanded a lot more tactically than he was used to in England. As a full-back in possession, he often had to think more like a midfielder, which made the learning curve steeper.

Now at Fulham, Bassey believes he has grown more mature and understands the game better. He said experience has helped him improve and stressed that hard work after training has been part of that progress.
