CAF weighs sanctions against Al Ahly with Esperance clash likely to be played behind closed doors

The Confederation of African (CAF) Football is reportedly preparing to issue disciplinary measures against Al Ahly SC following incidents during their recent continental fixture.

According to sources close to CAF’s Disciplinary Committee, a series of decisions are expected after Al Ahly’s February 15 encounter with AS FAR at Cairo International Stadium in the sixth round of the CAF Champions League group stage.

A source indicated that the committee is considering imposing a two-match stadium ban on Al Ahly, with one of those fixtures potentially suspended on condition that similar violations are not repeated.

Financial penalties are also said to be under review due to security and organisational shortcomings observed during the match.

If confirmed, the sanctions could directly impact Al Ahly’s upcoming quarter-final second leg against Espérance Sportive de Tunis, scheduled for March 21. The decisive clash could be staged behind closed doors should the punishment be enforced.

Before that, the Egyptian giants are set to travel to Rades to face Espérance in the first leg on March 15, setting up a tense build-up as they await CAF’s final ruling.
