The CAF Technical Study Group (TSG) has unveiled the Best XI for the Africa Cup of Nations, Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
This edition of AFCON, labelled as the best ever, climaxed with a thrilling victory for host nation Cote d’Ivoire over Nigeria at Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
Among the standout performers in the tournament, the newly crowned African champions, Cote d’Ivoire, secured three spots in the Best XI—Ghislan Konan, Jean Michael Seri, and Franck Kessie, the latter’s decisive goal contributing to their championship win.
Runners-up Nigeria claimed three positions as well, with Ola Aina, William Troost-Ekong, and Ademola Lookman recognized for their contributions.
South Africa, surprising many with a remarkable third-place finish, saw goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and midfielder Teboho Mokoena earn well-deserved spots.
Notably, Williams made history by saving four penalties in a single match during the competition.
DR Congo, finishing fourth, had two representatives in the Best XI—Yoane Wissa and Chancel Mbemba.
The team showcased a formidable lineup, with Williams in goal, a solid defensive quartet, a versatile midfield trio, and an attacking trio led by the competition’s top scorer, Emilio Nsue Lopez from Equatorial Guinea, who netted five goals despite his team not reaching the semifinals.
