CAF U17 AFCON: Egypt edge Tunisia in dramatic comeback to claim crucial victory
Egypt U17 secured a vital 2-1 victory over Tunisia U17 in a tense Group A encounter at the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026.
Tunisia looked set to control proceedings after Mohamed Moncef Thabti converted an 11th-minute penalty to give them an early advantage. However, Egypt responded with determination, earning a spot-kick of their own just before halftime that Mohamed Gamal dispatched confidently in the 43rd minute.
The match remained finely balanced until the closing stages when substitute Elezz Amir Abou emerged as Egypt’s hero, firing home the decisive goal in the 89th minute to snatch all three points. Tunisia pushed desperately for an equalizer but saw Ziad Saoudi collect a yellow card in stoppage time as their frustrations mounted.
Egypt now top Group A with four points, while Tunisia sit bottom with one point. Egypt face Morocco in their final group match, while Tunisia will take on Ethiopia.
