CAF to convene experts as Africa seeks stronger World Cup performances

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will organise a stakeholder forum to review Africa’s performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the continent looks to build on its historic campaign and move closer to producing a future world champion.

CAF president Patrice Motsepe said the meeting will bring together representatives from across African football to identify lessons from the tournament and develop strategies for improving the performances of national teams at future World Cups.

Coaches, former players and experts to attend

The forum will include coaches from the African nations that competed at the World Cup, alongside former footballers and other technical experts.

According to Motsepe, the discussions will focus on the successes achieved during the tournament, while also identifying areas where African teams can make further progress.

Focus on building a stronger future

The CAF president said the review would be evidence-based, drawing on the performances of the continent’s representatives at the tournament.

“We will hold a meeting soon where all the countries and national team coaches who participated in the World Cup, including others. Former footballers and experts will be invited, and the purpose of that meeting will be to discuss what we can do better as a continent and what we can learn from our performances in the World Cup.

“Where is the room for improvement? This is key for us because it will be backed up by results, because Ghana, Ivory Coast, and all the countries played well,” Dr. Patrice Motsepe said.

The planned engagement forms part of CAF’s wider effort to strengthen African football by turning the continent’s encouraging World Cup displays into sustained success on the global stage.
