The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed sanctions on Algerian club MC Alger following multiple breaches of disciplinary and safety regulations during their CAF Champions League fixtures against Orlando Pirates on April 1 and April 9, 2025.
In the April 1 match, MC Alger supporters engaged in disruptive behavior, including lighting smoke bombs, using laser pointers, and throwing objects onto the pitch.
These actions violated Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, as well as Articles 32 and 35 of the CAF Safety and Security Regulations.
As a consequence, CAF has enforced a previously suspended sanction from November 2024, requiring MC Alger to play their next two home matches in CAF competitions behind closed doors.
Additionally, the club has been fined a total of $40,000: $10,000 for the use of smoke bombs, $20,000 for laser pointers, and $10,000 for object throwing.
Further disciplinary actions were taken following the April 9 fixture. Assistant coach Mohamed Khezrouni received a four-match suspension and a $15,000 fine for violating Articles 82 and 123 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
Player Abdelkader Oussama Menezla was suspended for two matches, with one match suspended for a year.
Moreover, MC Alger was fined an additional $100,000 due to the inappropriate behavior of its players and officials during the match.
