The CAF Disciplinary Jury, in its decision DC23173 dated November 24, 2024, has imposed penalties on MC Alger due to the behaviour of their supporters during the CAF Champions League qualifier against US Monastir.
The Algerian champions secured their place in the group stage with a 2-0 victory on September 21, 2024, overturning a 1-0 deficit from the first leg.
However, the celebrations were marred by the misconduct of their fans.
As a consequence, MC Alger is mandated to play their next four CAF interclub home matches behind closed doors.
However, two of these matches are suspended on the condition that the club does not commit a similar offence within the next twelve months.
This means that MC Alger will play their upcoming home games in the CAF Champions League group stage against Young Africans SC and Al Hilal SC without the presence of their fans.
Additionally, MC Alger has been fined USD 50,000, which must be paid within 60 days of receiving the notification.
The penalties aim to deter future incidents and reinforce the values of fair play and respect within African football competitions.
MC Alger must adhere to these directives to avoid further consequences and demonstrate a commitment to fostering a positive sporting environment.
MC Alger’s compliance with the sanctions will be closely monitored, and their efforts to improve conduct both on and off the field will be essential in restoring their standing within the CAF competitions.
