The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced changes to player registration rules for the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, introducing greater flexibility for clubs competing in the latter stages of the tournaments.

Under the revised regulations, teams that have reached the quarter-finals of either competition will now be permitted to register a player even if he has previously represented another club in interclub tournaments during the same season.

This adjustment marks a significant shift in CAF’s eligibility criteria, potentially allowing clubs to strengthen their squads with experienced players ahead of the crucial knockout rounds.

In addition to the eligibility changes, CAF has also extended the player registration deadline for both competitions.

Clubs will now have until February 28, 2025, to finalize their squads, providing them with more time to make strategic additions.

These amendments are expected to have a considerable impact on the latter stages of the competitions, offering teams increased roster flexibility as they push for continental glory.

South Africa back in COSAFA hunt with convincing win over Zimbabwe

South Africa breathed life into their COSAFA Cup journey with a solid 2-0 win over Zimbabwe in Bloemfontein on Saturday, moving to second place in Group A. After a narrow opening loss to Mozambique, coach Vela Khumalo shuffled his lineup, introducing four fresh faces. The changes paid off as Bafana Bafana took control early, though missed chances kept the match goalless until the 39th minute. Masindi Nemtajela was fouled in the box, and Kabelo Dlamini calmly tucked away the resulting penalty to break the deadlock. Despite more pressure from the hosts, Zimbabwe’s keeper Martin Mapisa kept the score down with several key saves. South Africa pushed hard after the break,
