The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled its standout eleven from the group stage of the 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting the most impressive performers of the tournament’s opening round.

Despite being overtaken by Morocco for top spot in Group B, Nigeria leads the list with two selections.

Defenders Odinaka Okoro and Daniel Bameyi have been included following a solid showing from the Flying Eagles, who recorded two clean sheets during the group phase.

Sierra Leone, who finished second in Group A, also features prominently.

Forward Momoh Kamara, currently the tournament’s leading scorer with four goals, earns his place alongside fellow countryman Nathaniel Jalloh in defence.

Their contributions were pivotal in guiding Sierra Leone into the knockout stages.

Zambia, though eliminated from the competition, saw individual brilliance recognised as two of its players made the cut.

Goalkeeper Levison Banda’s performances between the posts and winger Joseph Sabobo’s attacking flair were enough to earn them a spot in the prestigious line-up, proving that personal excellence can shine even in team disappointment.

Morocco’s representation comes through winger Othmane Maamma, who delivered a standout assist in the 3-2 victory over Kenya.

His inclusion reflects Morocco’s overall success in topping Group B.

Democratic Republic of Congo’s Samuel Ntanda-Lukisa also features after netting twice for his country.

The Sampdoria striker was a bright spark for DR Congo during the group matches, combining sharp movement with clinical finishing to leave a strong impression on observers.

In total, players from eight different nations are recognised in the eleven, showcasing the diversity and depth of young talent on the continent.

The selection reflects both the individual statistics and the impact each player had in shaping their team’s fortunes during the group stage.

CAF’s team of the first round celebrates more than just results—it highlights the next generation of African footballers emerging with promise, skill, and determination.

As the tournament progresses into the knockout rounds, eyes will remain fixed on whether these standout individuals can carry their form forward and help drive their teams to further success.
