The Confederation of African Football has reportedly removed Ousmane Keïta, the head of its Disciplinary Committee, from all proceedings related to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final between Morocco and Senegal.
The development was disclosed by Egyptian journalist Mohamed Saïd, who is said to be close to the inner workings of CAF.
The decision comes as CAF continues to examine the controversial incidents that marred the final, which Senegal won 1-0 after extra time. The highly charged encounter was overshadowed by on-field protests, heated exchanges and incidents that have since generated intense debate across African football circles.
Reports indicate that Keïta, who is Senegalese, was temporarily sidelined to prevent any perception of a conflict of interest and to safeguard the transparency and credibility of the disciplinary process. In his place, CAF’s vice-president from Kenya has been appointed to supervise the case and steer the ongoing investigation.
CAF is currently reviewing official match reports, video footage and other relevant documentation from the final, with possible disciplinary measures still under consideration. The governing body has reiterated its commitment to upholding the integrity of the competition and ensuring respect for match officials.
While no final rulings or sanctions have been announced so far, CAF is expected to conclude its review in the coming days, following what has been described as one of the most controversial AFCON final endings in recent years.
