CAF President Patrice Motsepe is set to visit Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda in December 2024 as part of efforts to evaluate preparations for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN). The tournament, scheduled from February 1 to 28, 2025, will make history as the first CHAN event to be co-hosted by three nations.
Infrastructure Under Review
Motsepe’s visit will focus on inspecting stadiums and related infrastructure required for the successful hosting of CHAN, a competition exclusively for players plying their trade in their domestic leagues.
With less than three months remaining before kickoff, the CAF delegation aims to ensure that all facilities meet the required standards.
Executive Committee Meeting in Tanzania
While in Tanzania, the CAF President will chair a meeting of the Executive Committee.
The agenda includes reviewing the ongoing preparations for CHAN 2024 and addressing governance matters.
Notably, the committee will discuss the findings of the Joint Governance and Audit Committee’s investigation into alleged irregularities in the management of the CAF Secretariat.
This meeting underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in CAF’s operations as the organization seeks to strengthen its governance framework.
Spotlight on CAF Awards
Another key topic of discussion will be the upcoming CAF Awards, scheduled for December 16, 2024, in Morocco.
The annual event celebrates outstanding achievements in African football, with categories recognizing players, coaches, and teams who have excelled throughout the year.
A Landmark Tournament
CHAN 2024 represents a significant milestone for African football. By uniting three host nations—Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda—it aims to showcase the region’s capacity to deliver a major continental competition.
Motsepe’s visit highlights CAF’s commitment to ensuring the tournament leaves a lasting legacy for the participating countries.
The President’s trip will be pivotal in determining the readiness of the host nations, setting the stage for what promises to be a groundbreaking edition of the African Nations Championship.
