The African nations set to compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup include Senegal, Morocco, Egypt, Ghana, Algeria, Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, South Africa, and DR Congo.
“The Confederation of African Football and African football are proud of the 10 countries that will be representing the African continent at the FIFA World Cup 2026,” Motsepe said in an official statement on Wednesday.
He added, “It is the first time in the history of the FIFA World Cup that Africa will be represented by ten countries. This is a recognition of the substantial growth and global competitiveness of African football.”
The 2026 edition, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marks a milestone for African football, offering an unprecedented opportunity for the continent to showcase its talent to the world.
Speaking on the achievement, Dr. Motsepe expressed confidence that African teams would not only perform admirably but also leave a lasting mark on the tournament.
“We are confident that the African national teams at the FIFA World Cup 2026 will make us proud, and that an African nation will be champions of the FIFA World Cup,” he said.
The CAF President also singled out the Democratic Republic of Congo for their victory over Jamaica in the inter-confederation playoffs, which secured the final African berth for the 2026 tournament.
With ten countries now officially confirmed, African football fans have much to celebrate, as the stage is set for a historic World Cup in which the continent’s presence will be stronger than ever before.
