CAF opens bidding for AFCON 2028, 2032 and 2036
CAF has invited its 54 member associations to submit bids to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2028, 2032 and 2036, opening a fresh race to stage the continent’s biggest football tournament.
The governing body said the process is designed to be transparent, credible and ethical, with support from PwC and other advisers helping to guide the evaluation of each bid.
The move comes as Africa prepares for the next edition of the competition, with the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027 set for Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from 19 June to 17 July 2027. The TotalEnergies CAF AFCON PAMOJA 2027 is the first AFCON to be hosted by three countries, presenting a unique opportunity for CAF and African football to reach over 400 million people in East Africa region.
A total of 48 Teams, including the three Co-Hosts, will participate in the Qualifiers. The Draw will determine the pathway to the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations PAMOJA 2027.
CAF also confirmed that it will continue to stage senior men’s national team competitions every year except during FIFA World Cup years.
The AFCON remains one of the world’s biggest sporting events, drawing more than 3.2 billion TV viewers and six billion digital views globally. That scale makes hosting rights highly attractive for federations hoping to showcase infrastructure, tourism and football growth on a major stage. Further announcements on CAF national team competitions are expected in due course as the bidding process develops.
