CAF officially approves Borg El Arab Stadium for top matches
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially designated Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria as an approved venue for top-tier continental and international football matches.
This comes after Egyptian authorities implemented significant technical and organizational upgrades to meet the latest standards set by CAF and FIFA.
CAF praised the efforts of the Egyptian government and football association for their major contributions, noting that the enhancements at Borg El Arab represent more than just compliance, they mark a leap in the country’s sports infrastructure. The stadium now joins a select group of elite venues, boasting modern amenities, advanced lighting, spacious locker rooms, and state-of-the-art technology suitable for major events.
The approval is expected to give Egyptian clubs greater flexibility for home games and strengthen Egypt’s profile as a host for upcoming continental and global tournaments. Borg El Arab’s capacity of over 80,000 makes it one of Africa’s largest and most impressive stadiums. This move is also a response to growing demands for high-quality venues with the expansion of CAF events and enhanced broadcast standards.
The Egyptian football community welcomes this recognition, seeing it as a milestone that reinforces Egypt’s leadership in African sports.
