CAF Doubles Funding to Member Associations and Increases AFCON Bonuses
During its meeting on April 11 and 12 at the Care Hotel in Egypt, the CAF Executive Committee approved several significant financial measures aimed at supporting African football.
One of the key decisions is the doubling of the subsidy allocated to CAF-affiliated national associations, increasing it from $100,000 to $200,000. According to the official statement, this grant is intended to support youth football development and cover officials’ fees.
This decision builds on commitments made by CAF President Ahmad during his campaign for the presidency. Initially, each national association was to receive $100,000, with $20,000 earmarked for presidents’ expenses, $50,000 allocated to youth football programs, and $30,000 to support match officials. The Executive Committee had ratified this plan, which was subsequently approved by the CAF Congress.
In addition, CAF announced a substantial increase in bonuses for national teams participating in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), although exact figures were not confirmed. Previous reports indicate that participation bonuses for each qualified team stand at $600,000, with the tournament winner receiving $4.5 million.
These measures reflect CAF’s continued efforts to enhance financial support for its member associations and incentivize performance at continental competitions.
