The Confederation of African Football has officially appointed South African referee Tom Abongile to take charge of the highly anticipated semi-final clash between Zamalek SC and CR Belouizdad in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The first leg of the encounter is scheduled for April 10 at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, where CR Belouizdad will host the Egyptian giants in what promises to be a fiercely contested battle for a place in the final.

Abongile is no stranger to Zamalek, having previously officiated one of their matches during the 2024 edition of the Confederation Cup. His appointment reflects CAF’s trust in his experience and ability to handle high-pressure fixtures at the continental level.

He will be supported by an experienced officiating team drawn from across Africa. Fellow South African Zakhele Siwela will serve as first assistant referee, while Sorio Phatsoane takes on the role of second assistant. Mali’s Boubou Traoré has been named fourth official.

Video Assistant Referee duties will be handled by South Africa’s Zenith Makalima, assisted by Zambia’s Diana Chikotesha, ensuring that key decisions benefit from technological support in this high-stakes encounter.

Beyond the officiating crew, CAF has also appointed Jean Medard Koussa as the general match observer, while Raphael Effie Divine will oversee the performance of the referees.

The return leg is set to take place on April 17 at the iconic Cairo International Stadium, where Zamalek will look to capitalize on home advantage in front of their passionate supporters.

With a place in the final at stake, both Zamalek SC and CR Belouizdad will be aiming to seize control in the first leg, making the role of the officiating team all the more crucial in ensuring a fair and well-managed contest.

As tensions rise and anticipation builds, all eyes will be on Nelson Mandela Stadium for what promises to be a gripping semi-final showdown in Africa’s prestigious club competition.
