CAF launches inquiry into Morocco-Congo clash amid post-match altercations

CAF launches inquiry into Morocco-Congo clash amid post-match altercations

Reports from various sources indicate that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has initiated an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incidents that unfolded during the match between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, as part of the second round of the African Cup of Nations group stage.

According to consistent media reports, CAF has launched an inquiry to reveal the reasons behind the altercation between Moroccan and Congolese players, with the aim of identifying the culprits and imposing necessary sanctions in the coming days.

Decisions are expected to be made swiftly against those found responsible for instigating the brawl, particularly after unsportsmanlike images circulated on various global channels immediately following the match, which ended in a positive draw with one goal each.

The unethical conduct by Congolese player Mbiyimba towards the Moroccan coach led to clashes and altercations between the players of both teams.

The nature of the altercation has prompted a swift response from CAF, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining the integrity and sportsmanship of the tournament.

National coach Walid El Rhouraki revealed in statements to the French newspaper “L’Équipe” that Chancel Mbiyimba, the captain of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s national team, verbally attacked him and his assistant on the touchline before the end of the match, leading to further developments that required player intervention.

CAF’s inquiry aims to ensure a thorough understanding of the events and uphold the principles of fair play, reflecting the commitment to maintaining the highest standards of conduct in the prestigious African football tournament.
