The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a major new initiative, CAF Impact, designed to bolster the financial muscle of its member associations and drive the long-term development of football across the continent.
Introduced during the CAF Executive Committee meeting on April 26, the program will allocate up to $2.1 million to each national federation.
This funding package includes a core grant of $1.6 million, along with a $500,000 performance-based bonus—representing a 60% increase compared to the previous funding cycle.
However, the injection of funds comes with clearly defined conditions.
CAF has established rigorous financial regulations for the program, including mandatory independent audits and enhanced transparency mechanisms, aimed at ensuring the responsible use of resources.
“CAF and its President will ensure that every dollar invested is used to develop African football,” said Véron Mosengo-Omba, Secretary General of CAF. He emphasised the Confederation’s commitment to putting an end to opaque financial practices and prioritising accountability across all national bodies.
A core pillar of CAF Impact is its focus on inclusivity and future growth.
The Confederation has stipulated that at least 50% of the funds must be directed toward developing women’s football and youth programs—areas long underfunded in many parts of the continent.
“We are shaping the future of African football, creating opportunities for every nation, every region and every girl and boy on the continent,” Mosengo-Omba added, highlighting the program’s broader ambition to deliver sustainable and equitable progress across all segments of the game.
This bold move reflects CAF’s strategic pivot towards governance reform and structural investment, aiming to lift the standard of African football at both grassroots and elite levels.
By linking financial support to performance and compliance, CAF intends to raise the bar for federations and encourage innovation and responsibility in how football is managed and promoted.
The launch of CAF Impact signals a new era of football governance in Africa—one that blends increased investment with stringent oversight, and that seeks to empower the next generation of players, coaches, and administrators continent-wide.
