CAF inspection team heads to Tanzania for 2027 AFCON preparations

A Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspection team has arrived in Tanzania for a three-day assessment of the country’s preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

The delegation will be in the East African nation from 1-3 September to evaluate key infrastructure and readiness plans as part of CAF’s ongoing monitoring of the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

The visit forms part of a wider inspection programme designed to ensure the three host nations remain on track to stage the first AFCON to be co-hosted by three East African countries.

CAF’s officials are expected to assess stadium developments, training facilities, transport infrastructure and accommodation arrangements, as well as other operational requirements needed to host Africa’s biggest football tournament.

The governing body recently completed a similar inspection tour in Kenya, where officials reviewed progress on venues and supporting infrastructure earmarked for the 24-team competition.

Tanzania’s inspection is another significant milestone as the three nations continue preparations for a tournament that is expected to showcase East Africa on the continental stage.

The 2027 AFCON, scheduled to be held in June and July 2027, was awarded to the East African trio in 2023, marking the region’s first opportunity to host the men’s continental championship.

CAF is expected to continue its inspections across the remaining host nations as it works closely with local organising committees to ensure venues and infrastructure meet the standards required before the tournament begins.
