The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has handed down significant penalties to Senegalese club Jaraaf de Dakar following violent scenes during their group-stage match against USM Alger in the Confederation Cup.
The match, marred by chaotic incidents, saw Jaraaf Dakar supporters storm the pitch at the final whistle, leading to physical altercations involving USM Alger players and fans.
While some reports cite provocation from Algerian supporters, CAF’s disciplinary committee has taken a firm stance against the Senegalese club.
The sanctions imposed by CAF on Jaraaf Dakar include:
- A $30,000 fine.
- Four matches to be played behind closed doors, with two of these suspensions deferred.
This decision will notably affect Jaraaf Dakar’s upcoming fixture against Orapa United of Botswana on January 5, 2025, in the fourth round of the group stage.
In compliance with CAF’s ruling, fans will be barred from attending the match.
The disciplinary measures reflect CAF’s commitment to maintaining order and safety in African football, sending a strong message against disruptive behavior at stadiums.
