CAF Confederation Cup: Strong Performances and Key Results in Round of 16 First Leg

The CAF Confederation Cup round of 16 first leg matches took place over the weekend, offering a mix of results across Africa. Four matches ended in draws, while a number of teams managed to secure valuable victories, positioning themselves well for the return legs.

One of the notable results came from Orlando Pirates of South Africa, who held CF Mounana of Gabon to a 2-2 draw away from home. Despite the home advantage, the Pirates’ resilience means they will head into the second leg with a good chance of progression.

FUS Rabat of Morocco enjoyed a solid outing in Egypt, securing a 0-0 draw against Zamalek. The draw was crucial for Rabat, as it gives them a vital away point heading into the return leg in Morocco.

In another draw, Etoile du Sahel from Tunisia were held 1-1 by Young Africans of Tanzania, meaning the tie remains finely poised with everything to play for in the second leg.

There were also notable victories for ASEC Mimosas (Ivory Coast), Royal Leopards (Swaziland), and Warri Wolves (Nigeria). ASEC won 1-0 away to Onze Créateurs of Mali, while Royal Leopards claimed a 1-0 victory against AS Vita Club from the DR Congo. Warri Wolves also earned a vital 2-1 home win over MK Etancheité from the DR Congo.

Hearts of Oak from Ghana delivered an impressive performance, overcoming Djoliba 2-1 in Bamako, Mali, putting themselves in a strong position for the return leg.
