Séwé Sport on Brink of Historic CAF Cup Final Appearance
Séwé Sport of Ivory Coast stands on the verge of making club history as they prepare for a decisive showdown this Saturday in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final. The Ivorian champions head to Dolisie to face AC Léopards of Congo, holding a narrow but crucial 1-0 lead from the first leg in Abidjan.
A place in their first-ever continental final is within reach, but Séwé’s head coach Rigo Gervais knows the job is far from complete. “We would have liked to win by two goals,” he told CAF’s official website. “But winning 1-0 against an experienced team like AC Léopards is a decent result. It doesn’t guarantee qualification, but it allows us to approach the return leg with greater calm.”
Gervais is not underestimating the challenge of playing on Congolese soil but believes his side has the quality and resilience to deliver the away performance required. “In Dolisie, as in Abidjan, it will be eleven against eleven. The Congolese will have the support of their home crowd, but Séwé Sport has the tools to score an away goal — and that could be decisive.”
Séwé’s away record provides confidence. The Ivorian side has shown consistency on the road throughout the competition and Gervais believes there is no reason that trend should not continue. “When you look at our track record, it’s clear that Séwé knows how to travel. We’ve delivered strong performances away, and there’s no reason why AC Léopards should be an exception.”
The coach has taken a squad of 17 players to Congo, determined to write a new chapter in the club’s history. While remaining tight-lipped about his tactical approach, Gervais hinted at a disciplined and strategic performance aimed at securing progression. “Don’t expect me to reveal our game plan. What matters is that Séwé is aiming not just to play in the final — but to win it. We’re going to pull off the perfect hold-up in Dolisie.”
He added, “Séwé has strong ball control, and our defence has grown in confidence with every match. That’s a real boost ahead of the second leg. We’ll focus on structuring our attacking play more efficiently.”
With the stakes higher than ever and a historic final appearance in touching distance, Séwé Sport carries the hopes of Ivorian football into what promises to be a fierce and tightly contested second leg. Victory or even a scoring draw in Dolisie will see them advance to the final — a landmark achievement for a club rapidly rising in African football.
