CAF Cup – Roger Assalé: “Finish the Job in Cairo”

Confederation Cup Final: Roger Assalé Determined to Leave Séwé Sport with Continental Glory

As the decisive second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final approaches, Roger Assalé and Séwé Sports de San Pedro are on the brink of making history. The Ivorian side will face Al Ahly of Cairo this Saturday in Egypt, holding a slim 2-1 advantage from the first leg played in Abidjan.

Having already signed for TP Mazembe, striker Roger Assalé is determined to part ways with Séwé Sport on a high note—by delivering them their first continental title. Speaking to cafonline.com, the 21-year-old expressed his pride and unwavering belief in his team’s journey:

“We have shown great things in this competition. What we have achieved is not by chance but the fruit of years of hard work. We have one last step left to take, and we will give everything to achieve it.”

Assalé, who scored in the 82nd minute of the first leg, added:

“I want to give them the trophy. I had a great time with this team. And I promised myself to give them this gift for the end of the year. I give all the glory to God who has accompanied us so far in our journey.”

In the first leg, Christian Kouamé Koffi (23’) and Assalé (82’) netted for the home side, while Hassan Mahmoud (58’) scored what could prove to be a crucial away goal for Al Ahly, who are now counting on their experience and home crowd in Cairo to overturn the deficit.

The stakes are high. A win or even a draw could secure Séwé Sport’s maiden African title, while Al Ahly, the competition’s most decorated club, are hungry to add another trophy to their illustrious cabinet.
