**Orlando Pirates Prepare to Host Al Ahly in Confederation Cup Semi-Final First Leg**
South Africa’s Orlando Pirates are set to host Egyptian giants Al Ahly this Saturday in Johannesburg for the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final.
The Soweto club, defending their status as one of Africa’s most popular teams, are preparing to face the reigning champions in a high-stakes encounter. Despite a strong performance in the group stage, Orlando Pirates have struggled to maintain form in the South African Premier Division this season.
Currently sitting ninth after five league matches, the club is enduring its worst start in six years. The recent 4-1 defeat to Egyptian rivals Zamalek in the last group stage match has added to concerns over their consistency.
However, coach Eric Tinkler remains optimistic ahead of the semi-final clash. Speaking to Cafonline, Tinkler emphasized the significance of the occasion: “The prospect of a final is a rare moment that does not come around every year. The team has shown in the recent past that it has no hang-ups against Al Ahly. The important thing is to believe, to want to win, and to hang on to win.”
Orlando Pirates are eager to end a long-standing wait for continental success, with the club having not lifted a Champions League trophy in over two decades.
The first leg in Johannesburg promises an intense battle as both sides vie for a place in the final, with Al Ahly looking to extend their dominance on the African stage.
