AS Togo Port Prepares for CAF Confederation Cup Clash with Brazzaville’s Renaissance
Togolese club AS Togo Port will face Congo’s Renaissance Athletic Club of Brazzaville this Sunday in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. Ahead of the crucial encounter, a joint press conference was held on Friday by club officials and their event co-organisers, Sergio Sport, to mobilise public support and clarify preparations.
Speaking at the event, Sergio Sport director Serge Benissan Têtê underscored the collaborative effort behind the organisation of the match and called on fans to unite behind the team.
“Sergio Sport is co-organising this match with the Port. That means part of the organisation is handled by us, and the other by the Port’s management. The goal is to rally support around this match. AS Togo Port will be representing the entire nation — on Sunday, it’s not just the Port playing, it’s all of Togo,” said Têtê.
Club officials were also in attendance alongside head coach Ayivi Ekué, who acknowledged the limited information available about their Congolese opponents but remained optimistic.
“I wouldn’t say we’re fully prepared. A team is never completely ready. We don’t know much about our opponent, but once the match begins and we get a sense of their play, we’ll make the necessary adjustments to avoid falling into their rhythm and aim for victory,” Ekué explained.
AS Togo Port, a mainstay of domestic football, is eager to make a strong impression in continental competition. The home leg presents a crucial opportunity to gain an early advantage in the tie and boost national pride.
Supporters are expected to turn out in force, buoyed by the sense of collective representation and national identity conveyed by club officials. The match is seen not just as a test for the players, but as a symbolic moment for Togolese football on the continental stage.
