Issa Hayatou, the Cameroonian president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), has taken on an additional role as the chairman of a foundation established during the 35th General Assembly held on Sunday. The foundation, named after Hayatou, aims to implement a system of foresight, assistance, and mutual aid for athletes while promoting the practice of sports through partnerships with international associations.
The foundation’s missions align with the broader goals of supporting athletes and fostering the growth of sports participation. This announcement comes alongside Hayatou’s re-election for a new 4-year term as the president of CAF. The 35th CAF General Assembly, where these developments took place, involved the participation of several prominent figures, including FIFA President Joseph Blatter, UEFA President Michel Platini, members of the CAF Executive Committee, and the presidents of the 54 national associations. The assembly was held in Marrakech, southern Morocco.
