Jacques Anouma has emerged as a strong candidate for the presidency of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) at the upcoming elective congress, with significant support from Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara. Anouma, a member of the Executive Committees of both FIFA and CAF and former president of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF), secured the approval from President Ouattara following a meeting in London, England, where the president was visiting.
The endorsement from President Ouattara was confirmed by the Minister of Sports, Philippe Legre, who stated that the president fully supports Anouma’s candidacy and is personally invested in the campaign. President Ouattara has expressed his commitment to actively support Anouma’s bid for the CAF presidency, indicating a willingness to leverage his influence to promote the Ivorian candidate during the CAF summit.
Following this crucial backing, Jacques Anouma is set to launch a campaign in the coming days. Sources close to the former FIF president suggest that Anouma will accelerate efforts to formulate a strategic plan for the conquest of the CAF presidency, currently held by Issa Hayatou. To bolster his candidacy, Anouma is expected to focus on garnering support from West Africa.
The next CAF elective congress is scheduled for 2013, and with the backing of President Ouattara, Jacques Anouma is poised to engage in a robust and strategic campaign to challenge the incumbent and vie for the leadership of African football.
