CAF Confederation Cup: Zamalek seek comeback against resilient USM Alger in Cairo showdown
Zamalek SC will be aiming to complete a dramatic comeback when they host USM Alger in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday night.
The Egyptian giants trail 1-0 after a painful first-leg defeat in Algiers, where Ahmed Khaldi’s stoppage-time penalty handed the Algerian side a slim advantage heading into the return clash.
Despite the setback, Zamalek coach Motamed Gamal remains optimistic about his team’s chances of lifting the trophy in front of their supporters.
“There is a first half that has ended in Algeria, and there is still another half in Cairo. We have strong motivation to make up for this and win the title,” Gamal said after the first leg.
The coach also praised his players’ effort and fighting spirit despite the defeat. “We will fight until the last minute to win and claim the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup title,” he added.
USM Alger, however, will arrive in Cairo confident of finishing the job and securing continental glory.
