Zamalek SC coach Moataz Gamal has confirmed that the club is working to ensure midfielder Mahmoud Bentaik is fit ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup clash with Al-Masry.
The Egyptian giants are set to take on Al-Masry on Sunday evening in the third round of group-stage fixtures, and Gamal says the team is progressing well in training despite a number of injury concerns.
Assistant coach Ibrahim Salah revealed that preparations have been positive, but acknowledged that the squad is still dealing with key absences.
“We are progressing very well, and we have prepared some players in the past period. We have some significant deficiencies in the lineup, but we are working to resolve them during the Al-Masry match. Things will improve in the coming period.”
He confirmed that several players remain sidelined, including Ahmed Fatouh, Abdullah Al-Saeed, Ahmed Rabie and Dunga, all of whom are gradually returning to training.
“It is difficult to have some injured players like Ahmed Fatouh, Abdullah Al-Saeed, Ahmed Rabie and Dunga in the Al-Masry match despite their gradual participation in training, and after this match the players will be largely complete.”
On the situation surrounding Bentaik, Salah expressed optimism.
“We have been informed that Mahmoud Bentaik’s problem is on its way to being resolved, and he will be with us and, God willing, he will be a strong addition. We are trying to resolve the left flank crisis in light of the absence of Fatouh and Bentaik.”
Salah also addressed the ongoing uncertainty over the club’s technical direction, stating that the coaching staff will support any incoming head coach.
“We work at Zamalek and we are only doing our part. If there is a new technical director, we will help him, and if there is no one, we will accept it. Therefore, we leave everything to the board of directors and the sporting director.”
