CAF Confederation Cup: We must seize this moment — Ahmed Khaldi rallies USM Alger teammates ahead of decisive Safi clash
USM Alger winger Ahmed Khaldi has called on his teammates to rise to the occasion as they prepare for a high-stakes semifinal showdown in the CAF Confederation Cup against OC Safi.
The two sides will meet in the return leg at the El Massira Stadium on Sunday night, April 19, following a tense goalless draw in the first leg in Algiers.
With the tie delicately poised, Khaldi assessed the magnitude of the moment, urging his side not to let the opportunity slip.
“Thank God we did not concede a goal against Olympique Safi, because it is difficult to concede a goal at home, as this makes the task more difficult away, especially since it was the first leg,” he said.
“Everyone saw that we had a legitimate penalty kick, and this will increase our determination to achieve a positive result in Morocco and qualify for the final, God willing,” he added.
The 0-0 result in the first encounter leaves everything to play for, with both teams aware that a single goal could prove decisive in determining who advances to the final.
USM Alger, one of Algeria’s most decorated clubs, will be banking on their experience in continental competitions, while Safi are expected to draw strength from home support as they chase a historic qualification.
Sunday’s clash promises a fiercely contested battle, with Khaldi’s words reflecting a sense of urgency and belief within the Algerian camp as they seek to edge past their Moroccan opponents and move one step closer to continental glory.
Kick off for the game is slated for 19:00 GMT.
