Zamalek defender Mahmoud Hamdi, popularly known as “El Wensh,” has emphasized the significance of their upcoming Confederation Cup clash against Zambia’s Zesco United, noting that the Egyptian side is familiar with their opponents from the group stage.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Al-Wensh said: “We are aware of Zesco’s strengths and the quality of their players, and we must approach them with respect. They’ve been unlucky in some matches, but they remain a formidable team.”
He added, “Zamalek aims to win every game, whether home or away. Tomorrow’s match is crucial for maintaining our lead and securing qualification for the quarter-finals. We have studied Zesco closely—two of their key players recently moved to the Egyptian League—and our technical director, Captain Moataz Gamal, has briefed us on their main threats. We respect Zesco, but our focus is on claiming victory and achieving our objectives, and we hope luck will be on our side.”
Al-Wensh also highlighted that topping the group is not guaranteed despite Zamalek’s current position.
“With six points still up for grabs and strong competition from Al-Masry and Kaizer Chiefs, we must win our remaining two matches to secure qualification and the top spot in the group.”
Zamalek will travel to Zambia to face Zesco United at 3 pm on Sunday at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in the fifth round of the Confederation Cup group stage.
