CAF Confederation Cup: USM Alger set sights on AFAD showdown

USM Alger have turned their full attention to their upcoming CAF Confederation Cup clash against Ivorian side AFAD, scheduled for Sunday, 19 October, in Abidjan.

Head coach Abdelhak Benchikha is already deep in preparation for the first leg of the second preliminary round.

Known for his tactical discipline, the Algerian coach has begun studying AFAD’s recent matches to assess their key strengths and vulnerabilities.

Reports suggest he is even considering observing the Ivorian side in person to fine-tune his game plan.

The tie marks Benchikha’s first CAF Cup appearance this season with USMA, a competition he famously won with the club in 2023.

The experienced coach aims to begin this new continental campaign with a commanding result away from home, setting the tone for a successful run in the tournament.

Among the Red and Black faithful, confidence is high. USMA, strengthened by their continental pedigree and new summer signings, are seen as strong contenders once again.

However, Benchikha remains cautious, stressing the need for focus and intensity in Abidjan, where travel and conditions can test even seasoned teams.

Preparations in Algiers are already in full swing, with tactical drills and video analysis sessions planned in the coming days.

The goal is clear — secure a solid first-leg result to take an advantage back home for the decisive return fixture in Algiers.
