CAF Confederation Cup: Simba SC scores late to secure 2-1 victory against CS Sfaxien

Simba SC secured a thrilling last-minute victory against Tunisian side CS Sfaxien, winning 2-1 in a tense third-round group-stage match of the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

The win propelled Simba to second place in their group with six points, while CS Sfaxien remains at the bottom, yet to register a point in the competition.

The match began with CS Sfaxien on the front foot, and their early dominance paid off when Hazem Haj Hassan opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute. However, Simba responded swiftly, levelling the score through Kibo in the 8th minute after a well-orchestrated attack.

Following the equaliSer, Simba took control of the midfield, pushing Sfaxien onto the defensive. The Tanzanian side came close to taking the lead multiple times, including a powerful shot by Lionel Atiba in the 34th minute that narrowly missed the target.

The second half saw Simba ramping up the pressure, confining Sfaxien to their defensive half. Several close opportunities followed, with Stephen Mokwana and central defender Abdel Razek Hamza testing the Tunisian defense, which held firm until the dying moments of the game.

In the ninth minute of added time, Denis Kilo delivered the decisive blow for Simba, scoring the winning goal in dramatic fashion.

His late strike ensured Simba left the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium with all three points, delighting the home fans.
