Séwé Sport Reach CAF Confederation Cup Final After Gritty Draw in Dolisie
Séwé Sport of Côte d’Ivoire have secured a place in the final of the 2014 CAF Confederation Cup following a hard-fought goalless draw against AC Léopard in Dolisie on Saturday. The result, combined with a 1-0 victory in the first leg in Abidjan, was enough to send the Ivorian club through on aggregate.
Christian Kouamé’s decisive goal in the 57th minute of the first leg proved to be the difference over the two legs. Though Saturday’s return fixture offered few clear-cut chances, Séwé Sport delivered a disciplined defensive performance to hold off a determined AC Léopard side and preserve their slender advantage.
The result marks a significant achievement for Séwé Sport, who will now contest the final of the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in their history. It is a major milestone for Ivorian club football and a testament to the team’s steady rise in recent years on the continental stage.
The identity of their opponents will be determined on Sunday, when Egyptian giants Al Ahly host Coton Sport of Cameroon in the other semi-final. Al Ahly, the defending champions, head into the second leg in a strong position after earning a 1-0 win away in Garoua last weekend.
The final of the CAF Confederation Cup will take place over two legs in November. Séwé Sport will be aiming to make history by becoming the first Ivorian club to lift the trophy.
