RS Berkane head coach Moine Chaabani has admitted that his side faces a stern test when they take on Algeria’s CS Constantine in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final.
The Moroccan outfit will host the crucial encounter at the Berkane Municipal Stadium, with kick-off set for 19:00 GMT tonight.
Speaking to the media ahead of the match, Chaabani stressed the significance of mental resilience in high-stakes fixtures like this one, likening it to a derby in terms of intensity.
“These are the kinds of matches where mental toughness is key. I’ve been in this position before and understand the level of focus and discipline required,” he said.
“That’s exactly what we’ve been working on throughout our preparations.”
The coach believes the tie will be decided by fine margins and that the team which keeps its composure will have the edge.
“We’re fully prepared, and I’m confident this clash will come down to small details and which side stays calm under pressure.”
Despite playing at home, Chaabani played down the importance of the first leg, suggesting the real decider will come in the return fixture in Algeria.
“I don’t know how this first leg will unfold, but one thing is certain: the decisive match will be in Algeria. The result in Berkane won’t settle anything.”
He also highlighted the vital role of the home crowd, calling on Berkane fans to rally behind the team.
“I’ve always spoken about how important our fans are, and this match is no different. I hope they show up in large numbers and give us that extra push—we need their support now more than ever,” he added.
