CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals: CS Constantine and USM Alger Set for High-Stakes Algerian Showdown

CS Constantine will host USM Alger on Wednesday in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals, setting the stage for an intense all-Algerian battle at the Chahid Hamlaoui Stadium.

With a place in the semi-finals at stake, both sides will be aiming to make a strong statement in this crucial encounter.

USM Alger’s Experience vs. CS Constantine’s determination

USM Alger, the defending champions, enter the tie as favourites, having topped their group with an impressive record, boasting the best attack and defence.

Their pedigree in continental competitions, including a semi-final appearance last season, gives them a psychological edge over their domestic rivals.

CS Constantine, on the other hand, have defied expectations to reach this stage.

After suffering early exits in previous editions, the Sanafir have finally made it to the knockout rounds, finishing second in Group A behind Tanzania’s Simba SC.

Their gritty performances in the group stage have given them confidence heading into this highly anticipated duel.

CS Constantine ready to upset the odds

Under the guidance of Kheireddine Madoui, CS Constantine will be looking to capitalize on home advantage and produce a solid performance in front of their passionate supporters.

The head coach remains optimistic but acknowledges the challenge ahead.

“Facing a team of the caliber of USM Alger will give rise to a real football festival,” Madoui said, recognizing the quality of his opponents while expressing belief in his squad’s ability to cause an upset.

CS Constantine have been bolstered by the return of key players, including striker Brahim Dib, defender Achraf Boudrama, and goalkeeper Zakaria Bouhalfaya, all of whom have rejoined the squad following international duty.

Their presence could prove crucial in a match where tactical discipline and efficiency in front of goal will be decisive.

USM Alger face key absence in attack

While USM Alger boast a more experienced squad, their attack will be without Ismail Belkacemi, who departed during the last transfer window.

His absence leaves a void in the frontline, but the Red and Black remain confident in their depth and ability to navigate the challenge.

The stakes are high, and with both teams eyeing a historic semi-final berth, Wednesday’s first-leg clash promises a fiercely contested battle where every moment will count.

The return leg in Algiers will ultimately decide the fate of the tie, but for now, all eyes are on Constantine as the two Algerian heavyweights prepare to lock horns.
